Afro vs. Dancehall All Stars Exhibition Battle

In 2015 M.I.K. Family developed a unique battle concept, the „Cypher Concept“.

Since 2019 the royal discipline is now called the „Culture Concept“.

The Culture Concept is an All Style category, in which dancers can showcase their art and skills in a Cypher. After each round, the dancers themselves vote out the – in their opinion – weakest dancer in that round.

When two dancers remain, the judges will decide over the winner in the final round.

This year, the dancers qualifed for the Culture Concept through the preselection categories!

We curated a series of performances for a unique night full of dance in many of its beautiful forms as well live music. While many performances were highlighting some of the great talents based in Berlin and Germany, we also invited international guests to our Culture Dance Night stage.

Performers

Sunshine is a 14-year-old dancer from French Guiana in South America. To realize her dream of becoming a professional dancer, she and her family decided to move to France almost six years ago. Passionate about dance since the age of 2 and a half, she stands out for her versatility and mastery of several disciplines.
Afro Meets Dancehall is more than just a dance show- It is a cultural statement. Two worlds, one beat! Two crews - one with roots in African dance, the other in Caribbean dance - meet, merge their styles and celebrate their differences as well as their similarities. The show combines Afrobeats, Dancehall, Amapiano and Afrohouse - with a focus on empowerment, storytelling, attitude and humor.
Dammy Daas an emerging talent from Nigeria, brings a refreshing and innovative approach to his music, skillfully blending elements of soul, R&B, and afrobeats. His sound is characterized by its classic yet contemporary feel, striking a chord with a diverse and global audience.

Afro Dance Trier combines African dance and music culture with modern influences. They provide a platform for creative, intercultural collaboration and stand for diversity, inclusion and artistic excellence. Their goal is to bring cultures together, support talented artists and share the unique energy of African heritage with the world.
AfroQueens is an all female dance company based in London UK. With a strong focus on African Dance and shining a light on women in dance, AfroQueens have trail blazed and set the pace for Afro Dance groups/companies. Founder and Choreographed by Olu Alatise, the company have debuted their first dance theatre production “Journal of 7” and worked with several brands and artists including Sports direct x Adidas, Nike, Wagamama, Mr Eazi, SteffLondon, Koffee and more
Dareel Marley is a remarkably versatile artist whose musical prowess spans reggae, afrobeats, pop, R&B, and beyond. Originally from Africa and now based in Berlin, he brings a dynamic fusion of sounds to the global stage. Known for crafting infectious rhythms and genre-blending melodies, Dareel Marley has earned recognition across major platforms with a string of standout hits.
Dancehall Berlin a group of dancers from Berlin’s Dancehall community, are coming together for a one-night-only performance, led by choreographer Swaggi Maggi. Celebrating the power of riddim instrumentals in Dancehall culture, this show has a high energy choreography and special guest appearances.
Haniel is an Afro Dancer focusing on Ntcham, an urban dance style from Gabon, and Amapiano from South Africa. Originally from Gabon and part of the new generation of creatives in the Afro Urban Scene, she wants to express herself and overcome her fears, share her emotions and testify that nothing is impossible for those who believe
If You Know You Know is a group composed of people who are passionate about dance, and who adapt to any african dance style such as Coupe décalé, Afrobeat, N’dombolo, Amapiano and traditional dances. At the head of the group we have 3 professional dancers from the Ivory Coast - Serge, Stéphane and Roméo - whose goal is to make their culture known to the world. Their performance will tell the story of coupé décalé, its origins and evolution since the year 2000 until today.
Juli has been living in Berlin since 2023 and is still warming up to this big city. As a political trainer she educates, learns and deals with topics on and around education, discrimination and all other kinds of issues everyday life brings. One way she deals and balances her experiences is through food, dance and poetry.
Junction Crew is based in Amsterdam and has been dancing together since 2016. They share a deep appreciation and love for Jamaican culture. Centering respect for the culture they love to spread their energy through energetic movements. For them it is all about the vibes, energy, enjoyment and storytelling.
Pure stands for pure dancehall, pure community and pure love and respect for the Jamaican dance culture. Led by Celine Brinkmann, they are coming together from all over Germany. Unity, support and appreciation.
Queens Empire is a dynamic dance group whose passion is deeply rooted in African and Caribbean dance culture. Founded by Becky Bonsu (Queenibbb), this collective serves as a vibrant space for exchange and lived cultural awareness for her students. Their performances are the result of an inspiring collaboration under the choreographic direction of Afro Xtencion, Céline Kroner, and Becky Bonsu.
UMA is a dynamic Afro dance training and performance platform based in Ireland, founded by Favour Odusola. Rooted in Afro-diasporic movement and culture, UMA offers high-energy training, creative mentorship, and performance opportunities for dancers of all levels. Through classes, camps, and collaborations, UMA builds community, celebrates cultural expression, and empowers the next generation of movers to lead with rhythm, pride, and purpose.
Young Level Up is a dynamic dance crew founded and led by Nancy Van De Moosdijk, a dancer with over a decade of experience. Originally starting out as a continuation of a previous group, the crew has grown into a collective of talented individuals who share a deep passion for dance and storytelling through movement. They believe their storytelling, energy and commitment will bring the dancefloor to life.
